  • Kolkata: The CBI on Wednesday ran polygraph test on Anup Dutta, the ASI close to Sanjay Roy, the arrested accused in the rape-murder case at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital on Aug 9. Dutta was the eighth person to undergo a polygraph test in this case.

Dutta, posted in the Kolkata Police Welfare Committee, had reportedly extended a number of favours to Roy, a civic volunteer. The CBI is investigating whether Roy had informed Dutta about the crime he had allegedly committed or sought his help in covering it up. The information revealed during the polygraph test might not be used as evidence during the trial but the agency might gather corroborative evidence that could be used in court, CBI officers said. Roy used to frequent Dutta’s quarters in the police barrack at Salt Lake. The central investigating agency is investigating if he had helped Roy out after the crime.

The CBI had already questioned Dutta twice and they suspected he was trying to hide facts, possibly about Roy. On Tuesday, the agency officers took permission of the ACJM Court at Sealdah to conduct the polygraph test after Dutta gave his consent.

Apart from Dutta, the CBI conducted a polygraph test on former R G Kar principal Sandip Ghosh, arrested accused Roy and four doctors.
