Kolkata: The Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority plans to conduct a load test on the Bagmari bridge located over the Circular canal on Maniktala main road to assess its structural condition. The process to engage an agency to take up the job has been initiated.
The load test of the bridge is being conducted to get an idea of deflection the bridge was sustaining under different loading conditions.Officials also wish to explore the possibility of reintroducing the movement of tram which was plying along the route before.
The appointed firm will need to place four trucks weighing 30 metric tonne each on the bridge to carry out the load test. The trucks will move on three different speeds at 10kmph, 20kmph and 30kmph respectively to conduct the dynamic load test. The test field data will be collected from 16 accelerometers for analysis.
