  • Kolkata: Commuting to UGC-NET exam centres on Wednesday was much smoother than Tuesday as most candidates did not face any major problem in availing public transport and reaching the exam centres. For some, fewer buses on roads posed a hurdle as they had to wait for some time.

    Museology & conservation and economics / rural economics /co-operation / demography / development planning / development Studies / econometrics / applied economics / development economics / business economics papers were scheduled in the first shift (9am to 12pm) and geography, punjabi and Tamil papers were held in the second half (3pm to 6pm).

    Dum Dum resident Jayanti Debnath said, “I did not find any impact of the bandh while commuting from my home to the exam centre and while returning, other than the roads were a little deserted. I took the train and auto to reach TCS Gitobitan and it was smooth.” Another aspirant Himadri Ganguly said his journey from Bagbazar to Sector V was hassle-free.

    A resident of Behala Ahana Byabortta said, “I was worried if I would get any vehicle to reach the exam centre and wanted to hire a car. It asked for Rs 1,750 for a both-way trip. I took a cab to the exam venue.”. Madhyamgram resident Siddhant Mukherjee said, “I came by bus and there was not much traffic today.”

    A candidate from Jadavpur said he had to wait for an hour at 8B bus stand as there was no bus in the morning. He then took an app cab to reach the exam centre at Sector V. Thakurpukur resident Ananya Bhattacharya said, “I hired an app cab to reach the exam centre. It charged excess fare for the trip. There was no other problem to reach the exam centre.”
