  • Kolkata: A disabled law student and a boarder of CU’s Carmichael hostel has alleged that his roommate, who is a former student and has been staying at the hostel illegally, abused him verbally and threatened to kill him on Aug 11. He lodged a complaint with the university on Aug 13 and has also informed Amherst police station.

“He tried to harm me and threatened to kill me.

I informed the hostel super, who asked him to vacate the hostel. But he is still staying with me. I feel threatened and unsafe,” the student said.

CU sources said that the anti-ragging committee has submitted its report that recommended that the accused should be asked to leave the hostel. “The university instructed me to lodge an FIR against him. I have intimated the cops,” said the law student.

CU held an emergency anti-ragging committee meeting on Friday. Interim VC Santa Datta De said: “It was decided that the university will lodge an FIR against the accused. A senior official visited the police station where he submitted the complaint. The cops told him that they had received the letter but the FIR number will be given on Saturday.”
