Fake posts, never stopped RG Kar theme for puja pandals: Police

Kolkata: Bengal and Kolkata police have jointly rubbished social media posts that falsely claim cops are asking Durga Puja organizers to refrain from using the RG Kar crime as a theme for their pandals. The fake forwards also claim that no flex or posters related to the RG Kar incident can be used at pandals or in the vicinity.
“’Mischievous efforts are being made to spread misinformation and incite people, using sentiments associated with Durga Puja.This is fake news. No such message has been sent from police stations to puja committees. Stern legal action is being initiated against those trying to mislead and incite people,” Bengal Police and Kolkata Police jointly wrote on X.
Police said besides serving notices on those responsible, they will seek help from the social media majors to pull down the fake and offensive posts.—Dwaipayan Ghosh
