  • The West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Forum (WBJDF) will continue its cease-work and is all set to intensify its protest demanding the resignation of Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal, members said.

“The spirit of our movement is growing higher everyday against all odds and threats! We will continue our cease work in the same form till our demands are met,” said a protestor and forum representative.

The forum will march to the police headquarters in Lalbazar on September 2. “We also approached all senior doctors, speciality associations and doctors of private hospitals for a pen down programme on September 3″ said one of the representatives.

The representatives stated that any problem in institutions regarding cease of work will be handled by the institute-specific Resident Doctor’s Associations and bodies, but WBJDF is “open to the idea of sending official letters to institutions”.

“For those facing difficulties in the Distance Residency Programme (DRP), a letter with a particular format will be provided by the WBJDF. They are supposed to sign and mail it back to the WBJDF. Appropriate action will be taken based on the responses,” they added.

The forum’s key demands include: “identifying the culprits involved in the RG Kar incident and give them exemplary punishment; identifying and investigating all individuals directly or indirectly involved in the destruction of evidence and suspension of then RG Kar principal Dr Sandip Ghosh from the health department; resignation of the Kolkata commissioner and probing into police lapses in the case, ending the “politics of fear” in every college, ensuring democratic elections and the participation of junior doctors and students in all decision-making committees of medical colleges, and ensuring adequate security measures and amenities for doctors with immediate effect,” according to a doctor.

The junior doctors are forming an action committee with representatives of all colleges which will decide how to execute public outreach programmes. They plan to hold a programme with common people on September 4.
