  • Kolkata: CISCE, which stopped declaring the names of rank-holders in Class X and XII boards exams this year, introduced the ‘Certificate of Merit’ to recognise and felicitate candidates with outstanding academic performance. ICSE and ISC candidates, who were among the top 0.1% successful students in particular subjects, were issued the certificate.

CISCE chief executive and secretary Joseph Emmanuel told TOI, “CISCE has discontinued announcing the names of rank-holders of Class X and Class XII exams.Instead, it decided to issue merit certificates to the students who secure the top 0.1% position in each subject. The step is taken to rid unhealthy competition among students and to encourage all meritorious students.”

Principals of CISCE-affiliated schools appreciated the council’s initiative. DPS Newtown vice-principal Ambica Mehra said, “In our school, 111 ISCE students and 34 ISC got the certificate. We are grateful to CISCE for this initiative as it gives an idea about the overall performance of a school.” St Augustine’s Day School, Shyamnagar, principal Rodney Borneo said, “It encourages all students to perform well.”
