• West Bengal hospital horror: Patient held for outraging nurse's modesty in Birbhum

  • Representative Image SURI: A patient admitted with fever allegedly outraged the modesty of an on-duty nurse while she was treating him at Illambazar block hospital in Birbhum on Saturday night. The hospital authority was informed and the accused was arrested. According to police sources, the accused has been shifted to Burdwan Medical College and Hospital for treatment under police custody.

    The accused, Abbasuddin, a resident of Chotochak village, came to the hospital with his family members. On being advised by the doctor, the nurse was making a channel to infuse saline when the accused outraged her modesty.

    A nurse said, "Since the very beginning, the patient was abusing the on-duty nurse. But she ignored it and started treating him. He suddenly touched her indecently and she screamed."

    The doctors and healthcare workers of the hospital took out a rally with placards to demand round-the-clock security. 'We demand police security for all three shifts. Otherwise, we'll not work," a nurse said.

    Himadri Ari, CMOH, Suri health district, said, " Police officers told me the accused has been arrested. We'll review the security arrangements. We have talked to the police regarding stringent security."
