  • Kolkata: Probing into the murder of a Bhangar businessman, Nasiruddin Khan (27), who was shot dead at point-blank range by two bike-borne assailants in New Town on Saturday night, police have arrested his business partner from his Haroa residence on Sunday. Cops said the accused, Kazi Rafikul Islam, had hired contract killers after a fallout with Khan, who operated a brick kiln and was also into coal business for the last two years.

According to Khan’s family, the two recently had a tiff after Islam borrowed Rs 70 lakhs from Khan’s business and failed to explain its expenditure. “As of now, it looks like the murder was a result of a fallout between the two. Khan’s kin and employees also spoke of the same, following which we picked up Islam from his home in Haroa, North 24 Parganas. There were multiple discrepancies in Islam’s statement and he was subsequently arrested,” said a senior officer of Bidhannagar City Police.

Tahera Mumtaz, Khan’s mother told cops that said she had last spoken to Khan in the evening, who was with Islam since afternoon.
