Kolkata: Trinamool MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar issued a public apology on Sunday following a statement she had made about how “in the previous regime, female students were made to sit on the lap of examiners to clear exam” during a panel discussion on a Bengali news channel on Friday.
“I am sorry for any statement made in the ABP Ananda talk show and I apologize if my recent words have hurt anyone’s sentiments.I retract my statement. My intention has been and will always be to champion the cause of well-being and rights of women,” she wrote on her social media handles on Sunday.
BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul, who was also one of the panellists, criticized her, too. tnn
