  • Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court directed police to submit on Tuesday the case diary, along with other information, relating to the four persons arrested on Aug 26, a day before the Nabanna Abhijan, and released from police custody 24 hours later.

The state counsel pleaded that police had made preventive arrests, based on inputs that the accused had planned major disruptions during Nabanna Abhijan.

Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj sought to know the nature of information police had received about the four that led to their arrests. Justice Bharadwaj also observed that if the allegations against the four were substantive, why did the police release them a day after.

The father of one of the accused had learnt about the four arrests when he moved the HC on Aug 27. Police had stated the arrests were made by cops from the Golabari PS on Aug 26 on receiving inputs that the four would create disruptions in the Howrah station area during Nabanna Abhijan. Justice Bharadwaj asked the state counsel to specify from where did police get the information and also the nature of the allegations against them. He directed a senior state counsel to place the records with them during the next hearing on Tuesday.
