Alleging that Opposition parties “have crossed all limits” in misleading people over the rape and murder of a junior doctor in a Kolkata hospital, TMC MP from Bankura Arup Chakraborty on Sunday told party workers that if they “hiss”, those who are protesting would flee like dogs.
Addressing party workers in Bankura, Chakraborty said: “Nijer bibek ke jagaan. Bangla ke rokkha korun. Mamata Banerjee-r pashe daran. Delhi-r Sansade aamra aachi. Trinamool Congress-er kormider phonsh korte hobe bandhu. Phonsh kore din, kukurer moton paaliye jaabe . Sheyal-er moton dourabe ( Awaken your conscience. Save Bengal. Stand with Mamata Banerjee. We are there in Parliament. Trinamool Congress workers will have to hiss. Friends, you hiss and they will flee like dogs, run like foxes).”
“We wanted change, not revenge after coming to power (in 2011). But they (Opposition) have crossed all limits. They are misleading people and making them say that people will not accept Kanyashree or Durga Puja grants. If they have guts they should take out a rally and show how many people are with them,” the TMC leader added, referring to reports of Puja committees refusing to accept the government’s grants over the rape and murder incident.
He also asked woman party workers and student members to take a stand against the protesters, alleging that they were spreading canards on the issue of rape and murder of the junior doctor at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital.
Chakraborty earlier courted controversy after he said that “if doctors, instead of treating patients roam around with their boyfriends in the garb of protests and the patients die, there will be public outrage. “If hospitals get gheraoed, they should not come to us to save them,” he had said last month.
