  • KOLKATA: The Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) on Tuesday initiated a second call to engage an agency for constructing the proposed seven km long EM Bypass to New Town flyover.

Officials said that the second call was initiated as only two firms responded to the first tender call. "As per rules, a minimum of three bid applications is required for any first tender call to be opened," said an official. The plan is to engage an agency to set up the proposed flyover on engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) mode.

Officials said that construction work of the flyover is likely to start at the end of this year.

As per plans, the proposed four-lane flyover will take off from near Metropolitan crossing and will move over Chingrighata, Salt Lake Bypass, Sector V and Mahisbathan, crossing over a very small portion of the wetlands before finally ending at New Town bordering Mahisbathan. The flyover will have up and down ramps connecting Sector V.
