  • Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Monday pulled up KMC for delay in filing the compliance report with regard to a garment shop run on the ground floor of Paradise cinema.

“You cannot go in a slumber for so many days… Assume an accident takes place, what is going to happen? It will be reported, an unauthorised construction was there, the matter was pending before the court and this accident has happened, and the court was sleeping,” Justice Amrita Sinha remarked.

During an earlier hearing, KMC stated that even though a trade licence was given to the shop, permission for changing the nature of the building from assembly building to mercantile building was not given. The proceeding under section 400 (1) and 416 of KMC Act 1980 is still pending consideration, Justice Sinha noted on Monday.

In her previous order, Justice Sinha had directed the KMC commissioner to grant an opportunity of hearing to all necessary parties.
