  • Kolkata: What progress had been made on the rape-murder probe, Trinamool asked CBI on Tuesday, a day after the arrest of former RG Kar Medical College and Hospital principal Sandip Ghosh.

Speaking to reporters, the party’s former Rajya Sabha MP Kunal Ghosh said: “Sandip Ghosh has been arrested on corruption charges. Good. It is for him and his lawyers to speak on it.He should face the legal consequences of his actions; the party has nothing to say or add. But our question is on the progress of the rape and murder probe. Did the arrested culprit, Sanjay Roy, act on his own? Were others present during the offence? Was there any conspiracy?”

“Amid this hyperbole on Ghosh’s arrest on corruption charges by CBI, we still await answers on who killed the young victim. We need CBI to answer them. Justice delayed is justice denied,” he added.

Several Trinamool MPs and netas took to social platforms to make their point. Rajya Sabha MP Sagarika Ghose posted a video on X and stated that the Ghosh’s arrest was a “good step” towards establishing justice. “The arrest of the former RG Kar principal is a right step and this arrest shows that the law is operating in Bengal here without any fear or taking any side. The Bengal government, from the beginning, has supported the CBI probe. We want all the accused, against whom there is any allegation backed with evidence, to be arrested and legal action initiated. We want law to act impartially,” she wrote.

“It is with this in mind that we want CBI to complete its probe quickly in the rape and murder case and place the truth before the country. Let me remind yet again that Kolkata Police had arrested the (main) accused in less than 24 hours. This clearly shows that the Bengal government does not spare anyone involved with the crime. We want justice, not politics,” the MP said.

Kolkata mayor and cabinet minister Firhad Hakim talked on X about the anti-rape bill that Bengal govt introduced in the assembly. In the past 48 hours, Hakim made two posts saying “justice delayed is justice denied” and “no rumours, only truth, CBI answers us”.
