  • Kolkata: Calcutta High Court expressed its displeasure over police action for the second day on Tuesday while taking on record of the state report on the arrest of four accused students on Aug 26, a day before the Nabanna march, who were released after 24 hours in cop custody.

    Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj directed the state to file an affidavit stating whether the arrests were in conformity with the rules.Justice Bharadwaj directed the state to attach pieces of evidence and photographs related to the arrests while filing the affidavit.

    Counsel for the petitioner, the father of one of the arrested who was later released, pleaded that the police didn’t follow rules under the law while making the arrests.

    Justice Bharadwaj prima facie held that the arrests were not in order. Justice Bharadwaj directed the parties to file affidavits in seven days and fixed the next hearing on Sept 9.

    In another development in the same court, Bhaskar Ghosh of Sangrami Joutha Mancha that had participated in the march on Aug 27, moved the court seeking quashing of cop FIR against him. The matter will be heard today.
