  • Kolkata: A private car with a decomposed body of a man — suspected to be its driver — was found submerged in a pond at a Sodepur neighbourhood early on Wednesday morning. The deceased was identified as Bikash Shaw (41), a resident of Shyampukur in Kolkata, who used to drive the vehicle belonging to an app cab company, police said.

The cops suspect that the car may have fallen into the pond, off Ghola Dwarik Banerjee Road at Sodepur’s Old Post Office under ward no 28 of Panihati Municipality, nearly two days back, possibly around midnight.

Some locals, who were fishing in the pond, had spotted the vehicle and alerted police. Cops managed to fish out the vehicle from the water body with the help of a crane. “Shaw had gone missing since Monday. A missing complaint was lodged with Shyampukur police station,” an investigating officer said. The police are exploring all angles in the case.

Police are also trying to determine how the car remained unnoticed by locals for several days . “The locals are being questioned. The police are seeking any additional information that could shed light on the timeline and circumstances surrounding the event,” a senior officer of the Barrackpore commissionerate said.
