  • Kolkata: The CBI on Tuesday night reached the RG Kar hospital with a 3D laser scanner to recreate the place of occurrence. The agency has used the technology extensively in the case to create photo-realistic images to be presented before the court.

The CBI team on Tuesday night reached the third-floor seminar room of the hospital to capture images of the minute details of the room. The agency had earlier used the device to capture similar images of the entrance and exits of the seminar room. The seminar room has eight exits.

The laser scanner used in the process throws a beam of infrared laser light on a rotating mirror. The mirror throws the light on the surrounding environment. This enables the agency to get a photo-realistic full 3D diagram that will later be produced in the court. It will not only capture accurate on-scene evidence but generate a 360º view of the space.

According to CBI officials, the images can be blown multiple times to get a better view of the items lying on the floor. It will also capture minute details that will otherwise go unnoticed.

The agency has also started looking into the presence of persons who were seen at the place of occurrence on Aug 9 morning. One of the doctors present at RG Kar that morning was found signing the register at the SSKM nearly at the same time.
