Kolkata: Eighteen people, including five women, were arrested in the early hours of Thursday while participating in the ‘Reclaim the Night’ protest at Barasat. Police claimed that those people were arrested from Barasat's Colony More for allegedly blocking NH-34 and mishandling police officers during the demonstration.
However, in a swift turn of events, all 18 were granted bail by a Barasat court on Thursday afternoon.“Each person was granted bail on a personal bond of Rs 2,000,” a lawyer of Barasat said. Following their release, the protesters gathered outside the Barasat police station to celebrate the court’s decision. tnn
