Kolkata: Calcutta High Court on Thursday directed the West Midnapore district magistrate to conduct “surprise inspection” against illegal sand mining in the district amid allegations that miners continued to lift sand even after the license issued by the state govt had expired.
A division bench of Chief Justice T S Sivagnanam and Justice Hiranmay Bhattacharyya, while passing the order, gave liberty to the DM to constitute a team for the inspection.The bench also directed the SP to provide police assistance to the inspection team.
The bench ordered the DM to conduct the inspection and circulate the report among the parties within 10 days.
