Cops identify 8 Garia vandals, more plaints of harassment surface

Kolkata: Cops have identified at least eight persons involved in the Garia vandalism, in which the vehicle of OC Netaji Nagar was ransacked. But, fresh complaints of molestation and threats issued to participants of last Wednesday’s ‘Reclaim The Night’ protest have surfaced.
“We will record statements and simultaneously make arrests shortly,” said a senior cop at Lalbazar.
The cops had already arrested two persons in two separate molestation cases at Garia. However, another young man and his wife claimed that they were allegedly assaulted by two local youths — who barged into their house — for participating in a protest march in Kasba.
In Patuli , a person who was arrested for allegedly making lewd comments, filed a counter-complaint. A Bansdroni resident had dialed 100 from a gathering to report harassment, locals said. Cops said the Kasba incident was not reported, while they were probing the other cases.
