Drunk youth who attacked girl at night rally arrested

Kolkata: A local youth, who had attacked a Class XI girl participating in a ‘Reclaim the Night’ rally at Kanchrapara on Wednesday night, was arrested early on Thursday. Police confirmed the accused, Vijay Anand Shaw (28), was drunk.
The girl was at Kanchrapara’s Gandhi More, holding a microphone to address the rally. “A local goon, who was drunk, snatched away the microphone.As my daughter tried to take it back, he twisted her left arm and assaulted her,” the girl’s father said. She was hospitalised with fractures on her left arm. The father lodged a complaint at Bizpore PS.
“The accused is arrested for wrongful restraint, voluntarily causing hurt and voluntarily causing grievous hurt,” Ganesh Biswas, DC, DD, Barrackpore Commissionerate told TOI.
