• Kolkata junior doctor’s rape-murder: Governor refers anti-rape Bill to President Murmu

  • Governor C V Ananda Bose on Friday referred the anti-rape Bill unanimously passed by the state Assembly to President Droupadi Murmu for her consideration on “receipt of a mandatory technical report” from the West Bengal government, a Raj Bhavan statement said.

    “Bengal Governor refers Aparajita Bill for consideration of the President on receipt of a mandatory technical report from the Govt of Bengal, Governor has referred the Aparajita Bill for consideration of the President,” Raj Bhavan media cell posted on X.

    The Bengal Assembly unanimously passed a Bill called the Aparajita Woman and Child Bill (West Bengal Criminal Laws and Amendment) Bill, 2024, on September 3 that seeks capital punishment for a rape convict if the assault results in the death of victim or leaves her in a vegetative state, and life sentence without parole for other offenders.
