  • Kolkata: The family of the Class-XI girl, who was critically injured after being stabbed by a youth multiple times on a Belgharia road on Wednesday, has appealed for financial assistance on social media to cover her medical expenses. The hospital bill since Wednesday had already exceeded Rs 6 lakh, the parents claimed.

The 16-year-old girl, who suffered critical injuries on her head and hands, have undergone surgeries.“The bill was Rs 6.6 lakh till Saturday. The total cost is expected to be Rs 10-12 lakh. We are a middle-class family, we can’t afford such a large amount. We have urged the public to help cover my daughter’s medical expenses,” the girl’s father, who works in the postal department, told TOI.

The family claimed accused Abhijit Dutta was a friend of a youth, who had been pestering the girl for a while. The family had lodged a complaint against the youth at Belgharia PS in June and cops had warned him. “We never imagined the boy’s friend would try to kill my daughter. Abhijit might have acted at the behest of the youth,” said the father.
