Kolkata: Junior doctors have lined up multiple events on Sunday and Monday to observe the passage of a month since the terrible night when the 31-year-old post-graduate trainee doctor was raped and murdered, while on duty, at the R G Kar Medical College & Hospital (RGKMC&H).
On Sunday, the junior doctors will organize Abhaya Clinics in various districts of the state, starting from 10 am.
“We appeal to the medical community, health workers and the general public to make this initiative successful,” the doctors said.
The West Bengal Junior Doctors Front (WBJDF) has also given a call for a human chain around 5 pm on Sunday evening.
The National Anthem will also be sung at the protest site.
The Front also called on citizens to step out onto the streets around midnight to observe ‘Abhaya’s Night’, urging everyone to conduct peaceful protests to build a united spirit.
On Monday, the day the Supreme Court will hear the case, junior doctors plan to organize a programme titled ‘People’s Tribunal, Court on the Streets’ in the areas adjacent to Abhaya Clinics.
“We will seek an opinion from the public who have joined us in demanding justice for our colleague, standing with us, claiming nights, and forming a vast human chain,” the doctors said.
WBJDF has also appealed to people to stop work and come out on the streets for half an hour between 10 am and 10.30 am on Sept 9.
“Let our collective voice rise in a roar: ‘Ar Kobe?’ (When will it be?)We will keep our focus on the Supreme Court’s verdict for justice. Later, we will announce our next course of action ,” the Front stated.
