Kolkata: A low pressure that is set to develop into a depression over Bay of Bengal will trigger showers across south Bengal, including Kolkata, over the next three-four days. While the rain could be light to moderate in most districts in and around Kolkata, some parts may receive thunderstorms, said the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Alipore.
East and West Midnapore, Jhargram, North and South 24 Parganas and Howrah will receive light to moderate rain on Sunday and Monday.The showers could continue till Wednesday in several parts of these districts.
A low-pressure area over central and adjoining north Bay of Bengal is now seen as a well-marked low-pressure area over northwest and adjoining central Bay of Bengal, said a bulletin issued by the RMC. “It is likely to move slowly nearly northwards and intensify into depression over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of Gangetic West Bengal, north Odisha and Bangladesh coasts around Sept 9. Thereafter, it is likely to move west-north-westwards across Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining north Odisha, Jharkhand and adjoining north Chhattisgarh during subsequent three days. Due to the above system rainfall activity is likely to increase from Sept 9 over south Bengal,” the bulletin added.
