A Sealdah court on Friday rejected the bail plea of the key accused in the R G Kar Hospital rape and murder case of a junior doctor, and remanded him in 14-day judicial custody until September 20.
Earlier, the judge expressed displeasure since the CBI’s investigating officer and lawyer were initially absent. The CBI is probing the matter after a Calcutta HC order. The CBI counsel reached 40 minutes late, and opposed the bail plea, saying it would hamper their probe. The court, however, emphasised the gravity of the situation and the need for more prompt action from the CBI.
Sanjay Roy, the prime accused, a civic volunteer with Kolkata Police, was arrested on August 10. The CBI has also conducted a polygraph test on Roy at Presidency Jail.
