Kolkata: Bengal BJP will continue with its protests and take to the streets till the RG Kar rape-murder victim gets justice. The party on Monday also decided to show solidarity with doctors who planned to go on with their agitation.
“We will continue with our protests. We leave it to the junior doctors who have been agitating. However, we feel that everyone has the right to protest in a democratic country. There should be protests and we will support that. We will show solidarity with them. If they don’t get justice from Supreme Court, the agitation will continue. Let state govt suspend these doctors. We will see how many doctors the state can suspend,” Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar said.
Pointing to Bengal’s “dismal health infrastructure”, Majumdar added: “The state told the Supreme Court that 23 patients have died unattended. We don’t need to remind the state about the condition of health infrastructure here. Hospitals are even selling bio-medical waste and making people vulnerable to contagious diseases.”
The Bengal BJP president blamed the state for “hiding the truth and trying to gloss over the cover-ups” in court. “There is a difference between what is being said in court and what has happened on the ground. People are protesting against that and they are being threatened with legal cases,” he said.
State leader of opposition Suvendu Adhikari criticised CM Mamata Banerjee’s plea to celebrate during the festive season. “It is very unfortunate that the CM has asked people to join the celebrations. She wants us to forget the brutal incident. People of the state will decide on that,” he said. Adhikari added BJP would observe the hearing in SC on Sept 18 and decide whether it would be a simple puja this time or a celebration.
