  • Kolkata: South 24 Parganas district judge Subhradip Mitra has written to the registrar (Inspection I) of the Calcutta High Court seeking directions to the police to ensure safety and security of the judicial officers in the district.

In his letter, the district judge has conveyed the fear expressed by senior judicial officers of the Diamond Harbour sub-divisional court on the suspicious movement of miscreants around the Judges’ Abasan at Diamond Harbour, particularly after the judicial officers passed orders in Pocso-related matters.

The Diamond Harbour police has detained a suspect based on the CCTV footage made available to them and initiated an investigation. “A policeman has been closed in this connection,” Diamond Harbour SP Rahul Goswami said on Wednesday. The SP said the police would also consult the utilities over the complaint of snapping electricity and water connections to the Judges’ Abasan.

The judicial officers had pointed to an incident at the Judges’ Abasan on Sunday night. On inquiry, the ACJM, Diamond Harbour, came to know from the security guards that an officer from the Pailan police station sent two persons to the Abasan at night. The police officer didn’t disclose the names of the persons.
