Kolkata: A 74-year-old man, out for a morning walk, was reportedly mowed down by a truck near his Kestopur Canal residence on Wednesday. The 10-wheeler truck hit the man from behind when he was standing at a Y-shaped junction near a temple to offer his prayers. The victim, Pradip Roy, was taken to Bidhannagar sub-division hospital where he was declared dead.
The locals held an agitation and demanded answers from the police and the local councillor. They questioned why such a big vehicle was allowed entry into such smaller roads. Cops dispersed the mob and sent the victim’s body to RG Kar Hospital for postmortem.
An officer from Baguiati police station said, “Cops have seized the truck but the driver and his helper managed to flee the scene. A case has been lodged and further investigations are on.” tnn
