  • Sanjay Roy KOLKATA: The CBI on Tuesday night collected dental impression of Sanjay Roy, arrested for the rape and murder of the 31-year-old PGT doctor at RG Kar. Roy, lodged at Presidency Correctional Home, was again questioned on Wednesday for three-and-a-half hours.

Roy's dental impression became a crucial piece of evidence for even Kolkata Police, who had collected it after "circular intradermal bruises" were noticed in the victim's post-mortem report. The bruises over the undersurface of the right side of the doctor's jaw and on the adjacent right upper neck were suggestive of "sucking marks" or "love bite" marks. The CBI officers collected Roy's mouth swab, too.

Roy's lawyer Kabita Sarkar, who last met Roy on Wednesday morning, said she was yet to be informed by the CBI about any such process.

Using dental impression as a piece of evidence surfaced for the first time in the Delhi gang rape case, in which cops matched the samples from the victim's body with the dental impression of the accused.

The CBI on Wednesday questioned Apurba Biswas, a professor of forensic medicine at RG Kar, who was part of the three-member doctors' panel, which was formed by the hospital on Aug 9, the day the doctor's body was discovered. Biswas had appeared before the agency twice earlier. The same doctor had conducted the post-mortem. The two other doctors on the panel are also likely to be questioned. CBI also quizzed Poly Samaddar, the medical officer, who signed the victim's death certificate on Aug 9. They asked if she signed the certificate under pressure.
