  • Slamming the West Bengal government and the hospital authorities over the ongoing investigation into his daughter’s death at the RG Kar Hospital last month, the father of the victim on Wednesday said that the state government has used a ‘cover-up’ in the case to hide the truth. “The hospital and her department have conspired to hide the truth behind my daughter’s demise,” the father said while speaking with The Indian Express.

A junior woman doctor was found raped and murdered at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9. The incident has sparked widespread protests across the nation.

More than a month after his daughter’s death, the father says he is bothered by the unanswered questions regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident. “I can’t sleep, several questions have been bothering us. Who will answer them and when, if the government itself is only trying to underplay the incident and hide things. Why should I not feel a  conspiracy after this?.”

While speaking to the Express, the victim’s father again questioned that on whose instructions were they initially told that their daughter had committed suicide. “The condition in which she was lying itself narrated the nature of crime. Imagine surrounded by doctors and police who are experts, we were told that she apparently committed suicide.”

“My daughter was on duty, if she was not found for such long hours did not one bother to look for her. She found much later in the morning. What kind of system the hospital has…?,” he said.

The family also alleged that the government is trying to ‘focus’ on the Durga Puja festivities and “attempting to divert attention through festive appeals.”

“After a month of our daughter’s death, the Chief Minister, is trying to divert attention from the case by urging everyone to return to festivities. This is a deliberate ploy to deflect scrutiny from the investigation,” the father said.

While the father has faith in the ongoing CBI probe, he said, “There are more than one person involved, I expect the CBI to book people who are part of larger conspiracy.” “…The college principal, her department people, they are involved. She was fine till 11:15 pm and in a few hours she died. She was injured top to bottom and they want us to believe that it was caused by one person?,” he said.

The family said that CBI has indicated potential evidence tampering. “Why were there efforts to expedite the cremation process… there seemed to be a rush to complete formalities. I suspect that evidence has been tampered with. Me and my wife waited for hours… When I finally saw her body the area was not cordoned off… hospital didn’t file an…FIR,” he said.
