Kolkata: With the festive season round the corner, the parking mafia seems to be playing a cat-and-mouse game with cops. Two fresh complaints against parking extortion have come from the Wood Street-Short Street crossing and Alipore barely hours after cops sent notices to a parking attendant in south Kolkata for allegedly asking extra money from a motorist in the Park Street area.
Srinjoy Sen (28), a travel agent residing at Tollygunge Swiss Park, complained at the Shakespeare Sarani police station that he was charged excess parking fees at the Wood Street-Short Street crossing. This was Sen’s third complaint against parking extortion in central Kolkata.
Tanmoy Chatterjee, a private company executive, took to social media to complain of parking excess at Alipore, close to Bhawani Bhawan. “Is the Alipore D.S.R II office (Bhawani Bhawan) parking charges fixed at Rs.50 per car per hour eligible and legal ??? Without any parking slip?” he wrote on Facebook. He tagged the Kolkata Police and Kolkata mayor Firhad Hakim in his post.
Shakespeare Sarani police said they have received the complaint and its examination can be turned into a FIR and extortion sections slapped. As of now, a general diary has been made.
