NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) plans to conduct a narco analysis test on Sanjay Roy, who was arrested in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a doctor at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital.
The CBI has approached the Sealdah court for permission to carry out the test.
"This is primarily to cross-check whether Roy is telling the truth. The narco analysis test will help us to verify his version," a CBI officer stated.
What is Narco-analysis test?
Narco-analysis is a type of psychotherapy and a valuable tool for scientific interrogation. During a narco-analysis test, drugs such as sodium amytal, known as truth serums, are administered to the suspect to help uncover facts related to the crime.
A narco analysis test involves injecting the subject with sodium pentothal, which induces a hypnotic state and neutralizes imagination. This technique is used to obtain truthful information.
"In most cases, the accused gives the true information," the officer added.
The court hearing regarding the CBI's appeal is expected this afternoon.
Previously, the CBI conducted a polygraph test on Roy at the Presidency Correctional Home.
