  • The state health department on Thursday removed Tapash Ghosh, dean of students’ welfare of Burdwan Medical College and Hospital (BMCH), after the junior doctors and students began an indefinite agitation demanding his resignation, claiming that he is a close aide of Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of R G Kar Medical College and Hospital and accused him of threatening doctors and junior doctors.

Additionally, the health department also removed Dr Nupur Ghosh of the Obstetrics Department in BMCH. She has been asked to join work at Gopiballavpur Multi Super Specialty Hospital in Jhargram.

Nupur is the wife of doctor Avik De, a resident medical officer of the radio diagnosis department at Burdwan Medical College, who was suspended by the Medical Council of India last week. Reportedly, his transfer order was passed a year ago, but it did not work.

Birupaksha Biswas, a senior doctor in the pathology department of Burdwan medical college was also suspended last week. The two doctors are known to be close to Sandip Ghosh and have been accused of threatening doctors and junior doctors.

Meanwhile, in another directive, the health department has also regulated the entry of nine students, five interns, two junior residents and two senior residents to college campus and hostels in BMCH, amid the ongoing investigation against them. The order will remain in effect until the completion of the investigation committee’s process. However, they can visit the campus on the call of the investigation committee.
