Prohibitory order around RG Kar to stay till Sept 30

Kolkata: Police on Friday extended the prohibitory orders around RG Kar Medical College & Hospital till Sep 30.
According to the notification issued by Kolkata Police commissioner Vineet Goyal, the curbs will remain in place at the Shyambazar five-point crossing and the roads leading to RG Kar.
Citing Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), police said an assembly of more than five persons will remain prohibited.Carrying sticks, dangerous and lethal weapons are banned and any attempt to disturb peace and tranquility in this zone will invite legal prosecution. Police said all violators can be prosecuted under Section 223 BNS. This penal section has a jail term ranging from six months to a year, along with fine.
RG Kar hospital is now having a two-layered security with CISF present within the premises and police maintaining the peripheral security.
Shyambazar five-point crossing has been witnessing sporadic protests despite the imposition of BNSS 163, leading to intermittent traffic disruptions. More such protests are likely in the run-up to the Supreme Court hearing on Sep 17.
