• 84-year-old man, one other die, 2 injured in 4 accidents

  • Kolkata: Two pedestrians, including an octogenarian, died and two bikers were injured in four accidents across the city between Sunday night and Monday.

    Nanda Lal Sharma (84), a resident of Motijheel Lane near Entally, was walking on CIT Road when he hit by a private bus near the Ananda Palit Road crossing around 12.30 pm on Monday. The octogenarian sustained multiple injuries and was taken to NRS Medical College and Hospital.He succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Cops from the Entally police station arrested the driver and seized the bus.

    The second victim was a 38-year-old man, who died after being hit by an unidentified vehicle at the crossing of Mahatma Gandhi Road and Pagya Patty Street under Burrabazar police station around 2.45 am on Monday. The victim, Md Munna, a resident of Strand Road, was walking down the road at night when the accident occurred. Cops took Munna to Medical College and Hospital, where he died around 4 am. According to police, the vehicle that had hit the pedestrian escaped from the scene after the accident. Cops are checking CCTV footage to trace the vehicle and the man at the wheel.

    Around 45 minutes earlier around 2 am, two bikes collided with each other at the crossing of Lalbazar Street and Bentinck Street. One of the bikers, Abhishek Poddar, a resident of Baidyabati in Hooghly, sustained leg injuries in the accident. He was admitted to SSKM Hospital. Poddar had a helmet on at the time of the accident, said police. Cops seized both the bikes involved in the collision.

    At 11.27 pm on Sunday, a helmetless biker, Surajit Hazra (27), a resident of Collin Street in Taltala, lost control of his bike and skidded off the road at the Wood Street-Short Street crossing. He was admitted to SSKM Hospital with multiple injuries.
