  • The Enforcement Directorate (ED) launched raids at six locations in Kolkata and neighboring districts on Tuesday morning. Among the places being searched is the residence of Sudipta Roy, a Trinamool Congress MLA from Sreerampur and former chairman of the patient welfare association at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

Roy was also raided by the CBI last Thursday. He has been accused of corruption by Akhtar Ali, who had previously made allegations against Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College. The CBI has already arrested Ghosh on multiple allegations in the RG Kar rape and murder case, including disturbing the crime scene, tampering with evidence, violating official rules, criminal conspiracy and misleading investigators.

In addition to Roy’s residence in North Kolkata, the ED is also conducting raids on a drug dealer’s house in Ballygunge Circular Road and a bungalow in Dandpur village of Hooghly, believed to belong to Roy.

The Sreerampur MLA has been under scrutiny by the central agency following allegations made by the leader of the opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, that he had taken equipment from RG Kar Hospital to his own nursing home. Roy has denied these allegations.

“In 1984, I built a nursing home. I have built it gradually in the period (of Left rule in West Bengal). Anyone can visit my nursing home and verify whether I have done such things,” Roy had said then.
