After the Supreme Court pulled up the West Bengal government over its “Rattirer Sathi” project and fiving security of the hospitals through contractual security guards, the Opposition parties hit out at the TMC government in the state, saying it stands exposed.
BJP MLA and Leader of the Opposition in Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, said the programme was a “regressive” move and “discriminating”. “In the Legislative Assembly, I opposed the proposal of not giving night duty to women doctors. I said, nowadays women and men are the same… How can the state differentiate between men and women? This government has failed to provide security to women, and by these actions, it is proving its anti-woman outlook,” the senior BJP leader asserted.
Adhikari also said the arrests of some police officers in connection with the R G Kar incident will not be able to address the concerns of the women of Bengal, as the “kingpins are still unscathed”, but they will “soon” come under the scanner of the probing agencies.
CPI(M) leader Sujan Chakraborty said, “After today’s hearing on the Supreme Court, the incompetence of the state government has come again to the fore. We said the government is humiliating women doctors by stopping them from night duty. Today the Supreme Court also said the same. It’s proved that the government failed to give security to the hospitals. The state government should immediately drop the civic volunteers,” the CPI(M) leader said.
Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said, “Now, it seems that the CBI is trying to do a proper investigation. But what about the state government? They should apologise in front of people for the failure of the administration.”
BJP leader Sajal Ghosh said, “Where the prime accused is a civic volunteer, there how can the state government plan to give security to private contractors. Basically, the total health system has failed. Everybody should be removed immediately.”
