Kolkata: The New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) plans to conduct soil exploration tests by engaging a govt engineering institute for setting up the proposed 30-bedded urban community health centre (UCHC) in New Town.
Officials said a plot at DA/138A in New Town’s Action Area I has been earmarked for setting up the proposed UCHC, and the centre will be run by the health department.
NKDA officials said that in the long run there might be an upgrade to the UCHC and it could turn into a multispeciality hospital in the public sector, subject to state govt approval. “It has been a long pending demand of residents to have an affordable multispeciality hospital,” said an official. Currently, there are two urban primary health centers and five urban health & wellness centers run by NKDA. The centers provide general OPD facilities and selective emergency services.
