Kolkata: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has confiscated volumes of documents during the extensive, nearly 20-hour search operation at the residences and nursing home of Trinamool MLA Sudipto Roy in connection with its probe into the alleged financial irregularities at RG Kar Hospital.
“Some case-related documents have been seized. We are trying to ascertain whether the doctor had engaged in any financial transactions or other dealings with the hospital,” said an ED official.
In a complaint with the Vigilance Commission and ED, it was alleged that Roy had “webbed a net of corruption” with the help of Sandip Ghosh, former RG Kar principal. It was alleged that equipment purchased for the hospital was “siphoned off” to Roy’s nursing home. It was also alleged that patients were sent off to Roy’s nursing home from RG Kar.
The complaint to the ED has also mentioned that Roy used his influence as the chairman of the Rogi Kalyan Samiti to allow opening of “illegal stalls” on the hospital premise, appointment of pathology technicians, ECG technicians and Xerox centres. The complainant also alleged that Roy was instrumental in fake admissions in various academic courses at the hospital. Former deputy superintendent Akhtar Ali had also lodged a complaint against Roy.
“The ED did not get anything from my house. The searches were conducted based on a complaint by Akhtar Ali. I never imagined he would try to defame me. His claims are not correct,” Roy said.
