Kolkata: The New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) has identified a space in New Town’s BG block near DLF-1, to set up hawker rehabilitation stalls to relocate around 200 more hawkers.
Officials said around 900 such stalls have already been constructed and more will be set up. NKDA had previously conducted a survey to come up with the exact number of hawkers conducting business in New Town.
“Only new encroachers have been evicted. For those who have been doing business for years, a negotiation was on to get rehabilitated in the stalls which have been set up by NKDA,” said an official.
