Kolkata: Cops asked big ticket puja organizers in Lake Town, Salt Lake and New Town to ensure better crowd control measures than last year. Reminding them that no laser lights and drones could be used within an 18.5 km radius of the airport, the cops warned them against any violation. Last year, cops had to shut down the laser light show at a Salt Lake puja pandal following complaints from airport authorities.
“We have reminded the Durga puja committees about the strict guidelines while organizing the puja or face subsequent legal procedures,” said a senior officer of Bidhannagar City police.
Bidhannagar cops held the puja coordination meeting at Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in New Town with representatives of 618 Durga Puja committees on Thursday. The other major guidelines, included installation of CCTVs at vantage points; minimum width of pandal gates to be set at 12 ft to allow smooth passage for fire engines; stable and strong pandal structure to withstand high wind speeds; sufficient number of volunteers and limited number of vehicles during processions and immersions. Cops said they had identified multiple stretches in Salt Lake, New Town, Baguiati, Rajarhat and Narayanpur that need immediate repair. Puja committees were asked to keep enough drainage pumps handy in areas prone to waterlogging.
