Kolkata: Former India cricket captain Sourav Ganguly has lodged a complaint at Thakurpukur police station a YouTuber for cyberbullying and defamation.
Police have booked YouTuber Mrinmay Das, who goes by his social media profile, Cinebap, and others for defamation, promoting enmity, forgery, public mischief and criminal conspiracy. They have told Das to appear for questioning.
In an email to the cyber crime department in Lalbazar on Tuesday night, Ganguly’s secretary, Tania Bhattacharya, lodged a complaint, along with the link to a vlog, shared over social media platforms.In the email, Bhattacharya named Das, asking cops to start a case for cyberbullying and defamation. “This individual posted a video... that targets Sourav Ganguly, using abusive language and making derogatory remarks, which are harmful to his reputation… The context of the video constitutes not only an attack on Ganguly but also violates the dignity and respect that every individual is entitled to...” she wrote.
“We have got the complaint. Thakurpukur PS cops have started a case against Mrinmay Das and others for circulating false information on social media and posting a video that defames Ganguly,” said an officer.
