Kolkata: The Bengal STF has taken Nimtita blast accused Isha Khan into their custody for questioning him in a separate case. The state anti-terror agency has claimed that Khan was behind the illegal movement of explosives in Suti last month, the accused having operated from inside the jail, to arrange for the transportation. The Bengal STF had seized 1.58 quintals of explosives in two separate raids in the Suti area of Murshidabad in Aug.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA), the central anti-terror agency, had earlier arrested Khan on charges of supplying explosives in the 2021 Nimtita railway station blast case in Murshidabad on the night of Feb 17 that was allegedly aimed at killing Jakir Hossain, the then Bengal minister of state for labour. The explosives used were high-grade IEDs, the NIA National Investigation Agency had claimed in its chargesheet.
“Two individuals, including a Toto driver, were arrested. During interrogation, the arrested individuals - Akbar Biswas and Raju Sheikh - revealed that Khan was behind the supply of these explosives,” said a source.
Last year, Khan’s son had lost his life in an explosion at a Duttapukur factory in North 24 Parganas, said sources.
