Kolkata: The New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) has earmarked a 4,134 sq ft vacant plot near AC block park at the corner of Street no 37 for developers to stack building materials on a temporary basis. The decision has been taken to deal with the problem of stacked building materials obstructing road space.
The land will be given on lease for three months to those interested.NKDA has sought land from Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (Hidco) at central business district (CBD) area to stack building materials and an SOP has been set up for the proper disposal of construction waste. According to orders, developers will have to pay Rs 2,000 to NKDA for disposing per tonne of waste and violators will be slapped with a fine of Rs 50,000. A few months back, NKDA issued a notification, allowing developers and builders in New Town having sanctioned building plans to stack construction materials on the pavements by leaving a 1.5 meter gap abutting the construction site for smooth pedestrian movement.
NKDA had also instructed that all future building developers in New Town must submit a construction management plan as to how they would be stacking construction materials and will dispose the demolition waste following which their building plan will be sanctioned.
“It has been observed that construction and demolition waste are dumped in the surrounding vacant plots without proper handling which obstructs drainage services and accumulates water that serves as a breeding ground for mosquitoes,” said an official.
