  • Birupaksha Biswas (left) and Tala PS SI Chinmay Biswas at CGO Complex on Sunday KOLKATA: The CBI probing the RG Kar rape and murder questioned three doctors, who were allegedly seen at the seminar hall of the hospital emergency building on Aug 9 morning. Two of them, Avik De and Sourav Pal, were doctors, whose names figured in a govt order as "officials assigned" for "Independence Day parade and rehearsal".

According to CBI sources, the agency has come across two purported govt orders issued on two separate dates in connection with the I-Day parade and rehearsal at R G Kar Medical College on Aug 9.The order issued by the deputy secretary of health department on Aug 8 earmarked six doctors as officials assigned for the I-Day parade and rehearsal on Aug 9 morning. Another order issued by the department on Aug 6 had a different set of three names. The investigators have noticed that while the order on Aug 8 was entirely typed, the memo number and date on the Aug 6 order were written by hand.

Earlier, a section of junior doctors had raised suspicion if the second purported order was floated later on to justify the presence of De and Pal at the crime scene. The CBI officers on Sunday questioned them about their presence at the hospital.

Kolkata Police had earlier identified De, a first-year PGT at the surgery department of SSKM Hospital, as a fingerprint expert. Later, an audio clip, purportedly by Dey at Burdwan Medical College, went viral. De was allegedly heard claiming that he had seen the CCTV footage and that Sanjay Roy was the only person involved in the crime. The CBI had interrogated De on Saturday, too.

Pal, a doctor close to the North Bengal lobby and a govt nominee to the West Bengal Medical Council, was close to Ghosh. In a video clip with the CBI, he is purportedly seen to be addressing Ghosh as the person "who has truly reincarnated the medical college". The CBI officials wanted to know why the duo was present at the hospital from 5.30 am on Aug 9. They also tried to find out if any order was faked to establish their presence at the hospital in the early hours that day. Birupaksha Biswas, another doctor close to Ghosh and part of the North Bengal lobby, was questioned by CBI for the second consecutive day.

The investigators, who are going through CCTV footage of Tala PS, also questioned sub-inspector Chinmay Biswas for the second time. It wanted to corroborate statements of ex-OC Abhijit Mandal, now in CBI custody, in connection with the footage. The officials also questioned Apurba Biswas, a professor of forensic medicine at R G Kar, who conducted a post mortem of the victim. Biswas had appeared before CBI thrice earlier. Coming out of the CGO Complex office, Biswas said, "One of the persons who identified himself as an uncle of the victim threatened me with bloodshed if the autopsy was not done in a hurried manner."
