• Cops reach out to flood-hit with dry food, water

  • Kolkata: Bengal Police is reaching out to people marooned in the floods in West Midnapore and Howrah following social media posts by the victims, reports Dwaipayan Ghosh. “We stand by the affected people. You can report any problem via Facebook Messenger, directly at the police station or at the district police control room,” officers said at Bhabani Bhawan on Saturday.

    Under the direct supervision of the SP, efforts are underway to provide dry food, water and medicine.Around 5,000 food packets have been prepared, each sufficient to feed a family of four for at least a week, said Bhabani Bhawan. At Ghatal, pregnant women who are due to give birth within the next 96 hours are being transported to Ghatal Hospital by speedboats.

    Police took to FB to recount some of the experiences, saying how cop teams reached Pursurah’s Mirzapur with aid after a resident posted about locals sitting on the road.
