Kolkata: The new commissioner of Kolkata Police, Manoj Verma, paid a sudden visit to the residence of east division cyber cell sergeant Debashish Chakraborty, who had received severe injuries on his left eye during last month’s Nabanna Avijan and had since been under treatment.
Accompanied by senior officers like Howrah (rural) SP Swati Bhangalia, DC (east division) Arish Bilal and other officers of both Kolkata Police and Bengal Police, Verma reached Shyamsundar Chowk in Bauria, Howrah, on Sunday morning to find out how the injured officer was doing.
During the 30-minute interaction, commissioner Verma spoke to Chakraborty about his present condition, health related requirements. He also asked him if he needed any specific help. “Our sergeant was injured during Nabanna Abhijan on Aug 27. I have come to his home with other officers. It will take time for him to recover but he is recovering well,” said Verma while coming out of the sergeant’s residence.
Souces in Lalbazar said 37-year-old Chakraborty will need to wait for at least three to four months to determine if he would be able to see in his left eye normally. Chakraborty, who was sent to Hyderabad by the administration for better treatment, had returned to the city after multiple scans of his eye were completed there and medicines prescribed.
