Kolkata: The number of those summoned by the inquiry committee of R G Kar Medical College has increased with the college’s resident doctors adding eight more names to the list to be investigated for intimidating other junior doctors and students.
While the original list contained names of 34 junior doctors and 17 students against whom the allegations of intimidation were raised, the eight newly added are also junior doctors and students, said a source in the hospital.
The special inquiry committee has already started questioning them. Due to the sheer number, a batch of around 8 is being called in at a time. Sources said all of them were close to Sandip Ghosh, Avik De and Birupaksha Biswas, all from the North Bengal lobby.
A few among them, including Saurav Paul, a senior resident of radiotherapy, and Abhishek Pandey, a house staff, are already under the CBI scanner.
The summons to the first list of 51 was issued on Sept 10. While the crackdown on those accused of intimidation and other irregularities is going on across all hospitals, the list of the accused is the longest in R G Kar, the epicentre of the junior doctors' agitation after the rape-murder of the 31 year old PGT.
Among the 59, many are also named in the FIR of ragging incident at the R G Kar’s Manicktala Boys' Hostel.
